The intellectual discourse that occurs over just a hundred pages reads like the most important hundred pages to have been written.
It feels like a hushed whisper and urges people to fricken wake up and start living and appreciating life. Reminds me of an extended monologue from Frankensteins monster.
This book was written in the 80s during the height of the Cold War and it is so interesting that it sounds like on disobedience and other essays could have been written right now.

The first, which is the namesake for the book, is incredibly interesting. Basically a brief look into the psychology of obedience. While I don't particularly agree with his arguments for socialism, or socialism itself, his breakdown of the importance of disobedience to unjust authority and critique of consumer culture are cutting and succinct. The ramblings of a state bureaucrat on disobedience. It is a tedious read, yet the text can be quite ironic when marking the ignorance of the submissive revolutionary. Given the context of Erich Fromm's life, the text becomes more clear. All his life he has been a state employee.
And the same way ambitious M. s have to write papers to climb the university career ladder, even if they have no inclinations to do so, the state philosophers do the same.
You can't blame Fromm for this: he is Oh, boy! You can't blame Fromm for this: he is an incompetent specialized in holding a chair in some office. How can be described by the disciples? Well if you check the equivalent French parasites of philosophy you can observe the same issues, on disobedience and other essays.
